I'm not really in the business of selling vintage clothes, but occasionally I need to clear space in the closet so here is where I'll be adding the odd piece from my own personal collection (like this piece) that I have built up over the years for research purpose, or that I have discovered on my travels and have no space for.

This is a really delicious original antique 1920s black silk velvet opera cape, (wrap, cloak).
The bonus is that it is fully lined in silver silk lamé, and could theoretically be worn 'inside out' to reveal the metallic side (the neck buttons would of course then be on the inside, but three more could be added on this side if you wish))
It is in excellent condition, with absolutely no fading or shattering of the silk velvet, and it looks like it has been stored away very carefully so it is in very robust wearable condition. The silver lamé is also in lovely bright metallic condition, though it has that true antique patina that vintage metallic lamé aquires over time (and only enhances the look in my opinion!)
There is beautiful shirred detailing at the neckline (both on the velvet and lamé sides) to gather in the fullness, serving both a functional and decorative purpose. Further down the cape, just below the shoulders, there are three rows of decorative velvet piping.
The cape features the iconic deep ruched and padded collar so typical of coats and capes of this period, and this one is a beauty! Three decorative silk-covered buttons and velvet loops fasten the collar. The inside of the collar is finished with a narrow band of silver lamé piping to make the reverse as attractive as the outer side.

This is in superb clean condition, with no musty smell, this would make a great collector's piece, or is ideal for any theatrical or re-enactment purposes as it is so sturdy and wearable. The only flaws that I noted were a couple of small 'smudges' on the lamé side, only visible when the light hits the fabric in a certain direction, and they certainly do not detract from the overall look. The velvet is in excellent condition, with only one or two teeny 'dents' commensurate with it's age....and definitely no significant flattening or dulling of the pile.

I have photographed it on a mannequin with the following measurements;

Bust; 36"
Waist; 27"
Length (to follow)

As it is a cape it is to a certain extent 'free size'. However in my opinion it would look best on up to a UK size 14.....larger than that and the drape would not look so generous.
